EVERGREEN & JOLLY: Using directional fabrics

I worked on fabric cutting diagrams specifically for directional fabrics. The cutting process will be a little trickier, but this way, you won’t need to prepare extra fabric, except for Fabric 8 (Santa Hat – Body).

 

 

Please note that these are simply options for cutting the quantity of pieces needed for the project. They may not work for your particular fabric choices, especially when it comes to color balance and the orientation of the triangles.

For my quilt, I actually cut more pieces because I wanted to adjust the color balance as I went. I needed to move the pieces around, and I ended up cutting more of Triangle C than originally planned.

My biggest tip for success is to cut the larger triangles first. This will reduce the chance of running out of fabric before you have cut all the pieces you need.

Prepare 1/2 yard - As you can see in the diagram below, there will be quite a bit of fabric waste. For this reason, I recommend using a non-directional fabric for the Santa hat.
