JARS & STRIPES FOREVER - Scrappy Version

JARS & STRIPES FOREVER Scrappy Version with beautiful evening sunlight.

I made the quilt top as a sample when I released the pattern about 2 years ago. I chose soft pink and blue colors from my stash to make this scrappy version. For the background, I chose the cream + neon fabric from Cotton and Steel basics which I really loved!

When I completed the scrappy version, there were enough cut pieces to make one extra block. So I made a matching cushion cover. I added the borders to the unfinished block 8 ½” x 12 ½”.

Cut (2) 4 ¾” x 12 ½” - Side borders

Cut (2) 2 ¾” x 17” - Top & Bottom Borders

I finished up with the zipper and here are the materials I needed.

Backing fabric    (1) 17” squares

Liner fabric         (2) 19” squares

Zipper                 (1) 12” zipper

Note: Sew the quilted top and backing together using ½” seam allowance.

If you are interested in how to attach a zipper to the cushion cover, check the tutorials here.

For the quilting, I decided to do the custom free motion quilting. Although I was a little worried about doing the custom quilting on a large throw size but it was much easier than I expected. I broke it down section by section because of the size and it worked out quite well. I did the stipples quilting for the blocks, swirls & ribbon candy to the sashing and free style quilting (all mixed!) to the borders.

For the quilting thread, I used Mettler Silk-Finish Cotton 50wt Color 0039. It was a beautiful light blue and it was so good on this quilt.

JARS & STRIPES FOREVER quilt will be a good addition to your patriotic quilts and decorations. And since it’s a FQ/Fat Eighth friendly pattern, you can use the red, blue & white fabrics from your stash. It's so fun to mix them together and I hope you will enjoy making your version!
