SOMETHING'S ABUZZ: Kona Cotton version (Large Throw)
Meet SOMETHING'S ABUZZ quilt!! My first release in 2023! It's been a while since I published my last pattern. I think it's almost 6 months ago. Where did all the days go?! Maybe that's why I'm super excited about this release!!
Originally I made the pattern for Love Patchwork & Quilting Magazine last year using AGF Pure Solids. (the quilt on the right in below photo) And probably I wrote the pattern 1 year and 6 months ago. So it was refreshing to revisit and work on this pattern.
When I was working on a new colorway to make another sample, I started thinking of giving some movement to the design. I played with the block placement first but it didn't make me satisfied with the look. Next I played with the sashing and added the four patches to the cornerstone. Then this happened! It was a simple thing to add but I thought it was very effective and I loved how it looked playful.
This cover quilt is a large throw (63" x 78") and I used Kona Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman Fabrics. Below is the list of the colors.
- FQs for Bee - Punch, Duckling, Capri, Persimmon and Cyan
- Body & Head / Binding - Roasted Pecan
- Wings - White
- Background - Peony
This quilt is traditionally pieced. No FPP. There are many pieces to make one block but the pattern includes step by step instructions with many diagrams for three sizes.
- Mini wall hanging (20 ½” x 20 ½”)
- Small throw (48” x 63”)
- Large throw (63” x 78”)
The quilt is quilted by Mary of Quilted Ewe on BERNINA Q24. I asked her to quilt it with the simple wave lines with the light pink thread. I love how it turned out!
I hope you love SOMETHING'S ABUZZ quilt as much as I do! You can find the digital pattern here and the paper pattern here. Happy Quilting!
